Today I had a glitch with my square. I "rang up" a sale for $31.59 but when I checked my Square account the customer was charged $315.93. I do not see a way to get in touch with the customer to let them know I am contacting square with regard to this.

Square is only available Monday-Friday 6am - 6pm .

Has anyone else had this happen and what did you do?

Christina.

  • It's so easy to hit an extra digit without realizing it!

So every time I run a card I always check to see a zero in the amount charged before I hit one key, and always make sure I have the correct amount before I send it.

  • That happened to me twice this year.  The first time the customer caught it and call me that night (Sat.)   I went in to my square dashboard and refunded them the balance.  The customer was pretty upset at first, but she ok once she realized that I would correct it.  The second time I caught it and quickly adjustment the amount before the customer could see it.  I never thought this was a glitch by Square - just a mistake on my part.  I make sure the amounts are correct after each day of sales - a good practice.  I also check the amount before they sign for it.  I entered my inventory in square dashboard which helps me have the correct amount and tracks my items - a great feature.   I would almost bet this was a human error and not a square glitch.

    • Yes this happened to me earlier this month. I caught the error before the show closed so I was able to refund the difference while the charge was not yet posted to the end of day report. Called the customer to take responsibility and then apologized. All went well. Yes, it's easy to hit an extra number. And it's easy to correct through the Square software on your phone.

  • I hit an extra number before even though I double check and check the emails.  Even though the email came very shortly after they were already gone.  ran out of the booth and down the street but couldn't find them.  I just did a charge back right away and wrote of the charge as my mistake.

    • I have hit the wrong (or too many) number myself.  Fortunately I caught it at the time of the sale.
