Signing a triptych

Hi all.  I just finished a commissioned piece - a triptych.  I haven’t done one before.  My question is - how/where do you guys sign it?

The overall size is 12”H x 32” W; the middle piece is 12” H x 16” W, flanked by two 12” H x 8” W panels.  Do you sign the biggest piece?  Or, in my case, I always sign my pieces in the lower right corner - that would put my signature on the small panel that’s on the right.

They love the piece so I’d appreciate some input so I can sign it and send it on to its new home.

Thanks!

  • I sign them all. Even though they are a set, as they are not attached to each other, they might be separated. Therefore, as each is a piece of artwork from you, sign each one.

I also attach a COA (Certificate of Authenticity) to my work. When it is part of a Triptych I note it on the COA.

    • Thanks Larry.  When I look at the three pieces, I don’t see any way the small side pieces could stand alone but as you mentioned, they might get separated at some point.
