I'm new to AFI but have been doing shows for 20 years.  Locally (central Florida) it seems some art shows are expanding their hours to include Friday nights.  I'm wondering if that's a trend here or if it could be a general trend.

I'm usually one of the last artists out of the park after packing up each night (can't just zip up and leave), and the idea of rolling out of a dark park at 10 or 11 at night has been somewhat of a deal-breaker for me. (I'm not talking about well-secured shows with night hours like Milwaukee's Lakefront Festival, but the generally nice regional park and/or street shows.)

I'm trying to find out two things: 1) Am I going to find this happening more so I'd better get with the program and 2) If you've participated in these extended-hours shows, have you enjoyed the atmosphere and additional sales under the lights and found security reasonable?

Thanks for any comments

  • Late show hours can sure make you exhausted, I do know that.  I am not sure the majority of the shows are going toward late evening show hours.  If you look at the www.artfaircalendar.com the majority of those shows end at 5 or 6 pm.  So, I don't think this is a trend that all the shows are leaning to.  Chris, those late evening hours don't work well with a lot of artists.  Do a few if you want to.  Don't feel like you have to do those shows.

    • Thanks, Jacki --  I saw a couple of my favorite local shows expand to include Friday and started to wonder, but you're right -- the vast majority don't include evenings.
