Not so much a FAIR question, but a material question

Good Sunday afternoon all!

An artist friend gave me several really large frames that currently have foam core boards with advertisements printed on them. I want to use the frames but I don't want the finished product to be too heavy.

What would you recommend to use as a painting surface? Stretching canvas is not my strength! The biggest is 36" x 48".

I think I found the answer I was looking for - a large roll of heavy watercolor paper will do :) Haven't painted on paper since HS, but it will work well.
