Hi,

This is what I came up with on short notice and small budget for a booth for my first art festival.

I kept designing panels and sourcing materials and prices, but just ended up going with 24" door blanks from Lowes. I used some 1"x4" to make frame rails and a 2"x4" beam overhead across the front to tie it all together for a fairly sturdy structure. I painted an accent around the bottom in a dark brown and the framing also got some brown paint.

I set it up in the backyard a couple of times to make sure it would be fairly easy and quick to do. But, the festival logistics made it a little interesting being I was wedged between two other booths who were in the process of setting up too. I will need to refigure my construction plan. I built the structure first then slid the tent over it...a minor inconvenience to folks walking in the alley between booths for the 2 minutes it takes to pop up the tent. Next time I will figure a way to set the tent up first, then construct my walls.

  • As I said before, overall your 1st booth is looking good! The "doors" work really well. Definitely replace that chair with a tall director's model. I got mine from Amazon:

Good luck and lost of sales to you!

    • Thanks, Robin

I'm looking forward to getting back out there this year. I will definitely take the advice here.

Good luck and many sales to you also.

  • This being my firstlook at someone who is jus setting up, it gives me a great idea of what to start with, and also I am able to take the suggestions and refine my begining booth. Nice art work? Did you sell the one at the end (palm trees)? If not or so, what were you asking for something like it and what size was it printed?

    • Thanks, Jim

If you are talking about the work on the easel, right out front; it is currently entered in my local art guild's annual show.

I'm attaching the image here for you to see it better. It's titled, "Wandering Honokawela". It's a scene from the north shore of Oahu near Kawela Bay. It is a watercolor on 300lb. Arches cold press paper. The image size is approx. 23"x17". It is an original, not a print. I don't know if the rules here allow discussion of sales in threads. But, you can e-mail me to discuss it. derrt33@yahoo.com, just put Kawela painting so I know it's you.

      Once again, Thanks

  • I think it looks great! Your art is very well displayed. Two suggestions: I would change out the carpet to something solid or at least less patterned. Also, the table cover is a little sloppy. If you may want to use a much stiffer fabric and tailor it a bit. If you're anything like me, your booth is a constant work in progress. :)

  • Get rid of that chair. You want to be at eye level with every potential customer who comes into your booth. At the very least get a bar stool from someplace if you can't afford a tall director's chair.

    • Thanks, Chris

The chair will be gone next time. :)

  • try to notice if they walk past the table to look at your work in the back. Customers don't walk past barriers (table)they will generally stop at the barrier LOL .It is amazing I watch how people react in a booth some won't come into the booth fear they may want to buy something

    • Hi Brian.

I didn't know what to do here. Our booths were back to back and I needed to store some things. I figured making a counter and sitting behind it was a decent solution. The chair in the corner was actually behind the table...I had moved it for some reason and hadn't put it back when I took this photo.

Thanks for chiming in. I appreciate it.
