I now have a samsung tablet, and the little square reader is not recognized by it.
No cards can swipe, and there is a little icon in the corner of my screen of the reader with a red line through it.
I have been e-mailing with square and getting their standard help ideas, I bought a second reader at Rite Aid, tried that, no good, either.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm running out of time before my first show, and I cancelled my other merchant service.

I forgot to add that it also allows you to conduct cash sales in the same manner and when you enter the amount paid, it will tell you how much change is due. For a math phobic, this is super!!!! Don't really need my adding machine anymore.

Ok,received the new smaller square today and it works, yay.
I looked into Paypal pay here, I like the looks of it, there is 24/7 phone support. But as of now, not supported on a tablet, however I contacted paypal, and they are working on that.
So again, thank you, everyone. Would you believe I had to get the answer here- the customer support at square told me I had the correct reader!
The new square only works with the new program. The older square (which is still being sold in stores) does not. The new one is thinner. The program is also new and I love it. It allows me to download each of my items with price so when a customer comes up, all I have to do is tap on the picture of the item (which you download) and it comes up as a sale. When set up properly it figures taxes and adds multiple items for a total sale. So much easier then before. As an artist, I do not have thousands of items, so this works very well for me. But you do need both the new reader and app. I am using an apple ipad.
You might try picking up a paypal pay here reader at staples for $15 and see if it works on your tablet while you try and sort this out with square. That would take the heat off for this upcoming show.
It seems many folks like to have 2 options anyway because there are upsides to each service, u may need a backup at some point and neither cost anything to setup and both are OK with sporadic use.
You do get the $15 buck back by the way when you set up the account.

My new one didn't work until I upgraded the app to the latest version. I know where that is on my I-phone. If that doesn't work try deleting the app and reinstalling. You may want to try the old one just to see if that still works.
