Hi,

I am doing the Estero Fine Art Show Jan 7-8 and the Boca Raton Fine Art Show jan 21-22.  I am looking for something to fill the weekend in between those two shows (Jan 14-15).  It doesn't need to be an awesome show, just something that is still open and would help me earn a bit to pay the hotel costs in between.  I could fly home and come back, but I would rather not.  (Since I live in Texas, driving back and forth would eat up too much time and money.)

Also, does anybody know of any shows in Florida for Feb 11-12.  I have searched and searched and found nothing.  I am doing Artigras on Feb 18-19, but I want to find something for the week before in case I don't get into Naples the following weekend which I know is very difficult to get into.  I looked for other stuff for the same weekend as Naples, but either they are all full, or the application dates have already passed.

Thanks for any and all feedback. :)

Eric

You would be in Boca two weekends in a row though :-)

Looks like the deadline for PineCrest Gardens was yesterday though :-(

    • Thanks for all the feedback!  If nothing else, I can add them to my spreadsheet for next year.  I did find another show for the Feb 11-12 slot.  Bonita Springs is running three festivals this year, and one will fall on Feb 11-12.  I know it is a long shot since I apply in the jewelry catagory, but I tried it out.  I missed out on the ones for Jan 14-15, so I have to decide in the next two days to either cancel that month on my show calendar, or do a show, fly back, and then fly back out for the next show.  Has anybody done that, and if so, how secure is the airport parking?  I wouldn't be leaving my stock, just my van with tent, display, battery lights, etc.
      • Fort Myers airport is relatively secure for park n'fly, and cheaper than leaving it at the two park n'fly hotels nearby. It's about $60/week. The long-term lot is a huge single level lot with multiple entrances. If you call them, they can give you the skinny. Or you can look it up online. They will also jump-start your vehicle for free, if your battery goes dead. How do I know this? Ha.

Security patrols the area regularly. Lock up your van securely, and it should be ok. Better than Fort Lauderdale, IMO. I've left a trailer and truck there a couple of times. Ft. Myers is cheaper than Lauderdale airport, too. I wouldn't leave a van in Miami.

      • Eric, did you apply to Dunedin?  The Howard Alan website doesn't show that apps are closed (sometimes they close early on jewelry since it's such a popular category).  Rather than fly back, if you would consider doing a craft fair, know that Alan has a craft division called American Craft Endeavors (ACE) that is also open to jewelry. Although the show quality can be a bit uneven, they are relatively inexpensive (somewhere around $220-230) and the Venice show that weekend is actually a pretty good one.  I don't want to have this come off like a strong recommendation...but if the alternative is cancelling your entire stay it might be worth considering.

Can't answer a question about airport parking without knowing the airport.  But it's going to cost you over $100, for sure, that time of year, to do that.
        • Thanks for the information.   I checked out a bunch of Howard Allen Shows in July and found them already filled in the jewelry catagory.  I guess that they fill as soon as they come open in May.  I called them up to inquire and asked to be put on a mailing list for next year, but was told that there wasn't a mailing list for artists, just for customers.  It would be nice if they could send out an email letting folks know when the show is accepting apps.

          • They send out an email newsletter.
  • Jan 14-15:

Cape Coral Festival of the Arts.  Big show and really well run by volunteers but lots of lookers...it's a depressed area.  High end art is a tough sell in this economy. I've reviewed this show in the blog, search for Cape Coral.

Dunedin (Tampa-area) has a Howard Alan show that weekend: www.artfestival.com
    Haven't done this one, personally.
Feb 11-12: I don't see any good ones on the horizon.  There is a show
in Anna Maria Island that weekend but that market is getting oversaturated
with junky shows. I can't find a good, comprehensive site with information for this show but if you check out the Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce they can probably help you.  Anna Maria Island is just south of Tampa, an island resort near Sarasota/ Bradenton/Tampa area.  It's a beautiful, relaxed, though pricey place to stay.  (You can find more reasonable lodging at the chain hotels along Cortez Ave. closer to Bradenton, on the mainland.)
Contact info for the Chamber is at:
941-778-1541 or visit local newspapers online at www.amisun.com or www.islander.org.

    Good luck!
