Mt Dora?? Estero??

Hi all; Tis the night before the Novi setup and I'm looking at Florida shows. Any thoughts you can share on Mt Dora or Estero? Good...Bad...Ugly? I've been travelling all over Michigan for the last three weeks taking in some tall ship festivals, lighthouse festival and zig zagging all over the state taking marvelous photos for next year's shows. My Great Lakes images always do well over here. These folks really love their (4) great lakes and more than 100 lighthouses. Tricky thing is to capture images no one else has. Sure am having fun. Most of the time Neil & I camp out in our van with (2) dogs. Cozy???? yes sireeee. But we stay warm these crisp Oct evenings while taking in all the nature we can. While I love the solitude of it all, I will say it's GREAT staying at a Mariott the next five nights. Nice especially to take a nice LONG shower as those state campgrounds showers promote quick showers. Anyway, looking forward to seeing some of you here at Novi. Sure would appreciate any thoughts on the two Florida shows.

  • I did Estero in Nov 08 - weather was great - Patty and her crew were EXTREMELY helpful to this "older" exhibitor which I totally appreciated. Sales were okay. Traffic was constant but not overwhelming. A much cooler Sunday morning (in the low 50's) kept folks away in the morning, but by afternoon they were out and buying. If you go - take time to visit Sanibel Island - we had a wonderful time there after setup on Friday! Got lots of great photos for future paintings! If I had the $$$ - I'd do it again!
  • Patty's show is extremely well run. She and her staff are organized, personable, and artist-friendly. Setup is the day before the show, and you can pull up right to your spot.
Miromar Outlets is an easily accessible venue for artists and showgoers alike. Don't be misled by the "Outlets" part--this is an upscale area with lots of high-end shops nearby.
The show I did (last spring) was pretty well attended and the traffic through my booth was pretty good, but the percentage of buyers was lower than usual. Whether this meant that the crowds were just passing through on the way back to their cars from outlet bargain-shopping, I can't say. Patty knows what she's doing, markets aggressively, and she's well connected. So l I think this show has lots of potential.
  • Linda, Estero is next to Bonita Springs, a very upscale area. The show is new and unproved. Patty is a good promoter. I do several of her shows. Mt. Dora is very conservative and a long way from the water. Don' know How your Lakes shots will do here. Aloha, Nels
