The major ones, I already know about, and deadlines have mostly passed. Looks like I have 3 or more weeks of August free.  By that time of year, it won’t be a good time to garden, so I’m better off looking for a decent show. ;)

I’m especially looking for the second and last weekends.   Eastern Ohio is as far east as I’ll drive, and mid Minnesota / Iowa as far west. North is open. South...well, Tennessee, but only if TERRIFIC, as that's pretty far

Thanks for any ideas.

  • Hi Lin, Have you looked at our site: http://www.callsforartists.com?

It has a bunch of smaller shows, not too far for you to travel with lower booth fees in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio. Take a look and then let me know what you think.

    • Thanks, Connie! I'd never seen it put together as a list before. I started going through your calendar for the public last night, but the other is more practical, with the deadlines and other useful info right there.

Personal recommendations are still very welcome.

      • Right, the calendar is for the public to come to the art fairs. Not so helpful to artists.

But callsforartists.com I made just for artists to be useful. It is a cool site and helpful for finding smaller shows, as well as the big ones. These are all shows that have advertised with me, so it is unique in that way. But I have taken some flack from the shows in how it is organized, but set it up so that the most important is first.

Like you, you're looking for specific dates. Right? You can run right through the list and check those dates. What's most important next? The location, city and state. What else is important? the deadline. And then how do you find more information and the application.

And, the other thing, that the shows have told me they like about it is that I leave the shows up there until show time, so artists can check in with the shows past deadline to see if there are any cancellations. Always worth checking if you've got an open date.

  • There is a show in Kettering OH, is that Dayton area? Sometime in August, one day. Easy to do.

Nice looking show, decent quality, free to public.

I have done it a few times happily but not recently as I moved.

There was a post or two on here about it.

Think it's called  Art on the Commons.

    • Thanks! I did it once, decades ago, but I'd forgotten about it.
