I watched this British soap on PBS which just ended. Apart from the story line and romances, there were some interesting lessons demonstrated by the individual artisan/shop owners competing with the new mega-store, The Paradise. Also some creative marketing going on in the Paradise too. And yes, true love won out in the end. It's a good watch on cold winter evenings.

  • I saw snippets of a few episodes and caught the end where the owner of The Paradise told his fiancée to get lost, but then missed what happened next. I saw the small shop owner struggle against Macy's/Amazon, but it looked like he lost out. And what about the venture capital the the principal actor lost out on? True love may have won out, but what about capitalism? and what is one of the lessons learned?

    • 1. Denise left security to help her uncle's small shop - tasking risks
      2. She cornered the maket on a fabric - exclusive commodity
      3. She formed a co-op - taking another risk even if it didn't work out
      4. Moved out of shops onto street with merchandise - sound familiar?
      5. With Moray's business sense and Denise's creativity, they could look forward to a successful life together in business. IMO
      6. Would have expected several employees of Paradise to go with Moray's venture - developing loyalty.
      • So did Moray leave the Paradise and move to the Uncle's business to take it on and build it? Did he walk away from the golden handcuffs?

        • It wasn't really said. The ex's uncle(?) held a lot of Moray's notes on the Paradise so my supposition is that the ex would be involved in the new management as Moray was on the way out with his true love, Denise ( good luck with that venture with the ex). I'm sure Denise's uncle would be involved in the new venture of Moray and Denise, and I would suspect others shop owners/ artisans as well. The closing scene was of Moray and Denise lovingly holding hands on Moray's supposed wedding day to the ex. A lot was left up to the viewer. Geezee did I get that involved in a soap. I sound like my late mother-in-law, LOL. What was anyone else's read on it?
