We have applied to this show in the past and are always told that they don't need jewelry vendors.  We make a higher end gemstone jewelry, so we wonder if this is a place for us anyway.  (Waiting to hear from them this year.)  Is it more a festival/street fair?  We know it draws a large crowd, but after traveling a LONG way to the Azalea Festival in Wilmington, we are disappointed that this a not for artists, lots of imported junk, even though this one was written up in Sunshine Artist magazine.  We can't afford to make the same mistake again.  Can anyone give us some information on this one?

  • Thanks!! We ended up going to this show, even tho it was a long drive. Turned out well!! Shoppers were savvy and appreciative of quality. The venue is a high income area, and show is well organized. We would return if invited again.
  • I just returned from this show. I almost did not apply this year because of being turned down several times. i do jewelry also, Jane. It was about a 2-3 hour drive for me and I am not crazy about 1 day shows, but this one was a good one for me. It is very well organized and well run and people were very nice. I had a bad fall there and several people ran to my rescue.
Imagine my surprise when a woman i knew while living in Shanghai walked into my booth! That has now happened in Cary, NC, and Columbia, SC. Very unexpected and very fun!
I normally travel without my husband to do shows, so I do not really get to walk around and see what is exhibited. However, I would not call this a street festival. People were buying, and were also knowledgable and appreciative of the work involved.
Load in and load out were both good.
  • Thanks, Pauline! I think we will pass on this one. (If we even are invited!)
  • Based on the reviews on Festival Net it sounds like it is very difficult to get in unless you are from this area. I also know that for us, we find it very difficult to make much money on one day shows (even local ones). We even usually tend to avoid 2 day shows with short hours (ex. 11am-4pm). My husbands formula is that you have to have more "sales hours" than you do travel hours to make a show worthwhile...and usually this has worked for us. Of course, we do have a product where we have to sell some volume so may be a little different for us. BTW, several artists and customers who reviewed this show did refer to this as a "street festival".
