After sending in the applications for 2 back to back shows in the spring, I am in a state of panic. How do you vets keep your cool through out the year as far as inventory? Do you stock up and bring the kitchen sink or do you go with the slim gallery look at a show? (My daughter said that the word skinny doesn't apply to you mom.)

One year I moved things around the next morning due to a good sales Saturday and people that came in the next morning were in a panic looking for their piece. The booth looked skinny and hate to make the same mistake again.

Oh last thing - what do you do with last years inventory...is it ok to bring it into the next year?

Thanks All!

  • I wasn't there to see the customers faces when they (panic'd) but that always is a good thing in my booth, I love watching them look around then possibly find the piece they wanted, grab it and not put it down.  And we move the large sculptures around also.

I always thought that a skinny booth meant, great sales and I should see what they might have left before it's gone...Jacque

  • Of course you can carry the unsold inventory to your next show, again and again. Also, though there are some cool events (depending on where you live) where you can sell overstock, such as the Garage Sale Art Fair in Kalamazoo and Artworks near Madison, WI.

Do not bring everything. But isn't January a great time to make a plan? Look over what you did last year, how were those sales? doing more shows this year? One of our most popular podcasts is the one I did with members Alison Thomas and Leo Charette where they talked about how they allocate resources and plan their year. Click on Radio up above and find it in the list there. It is very good. These two are very analytical and have great suggestions.
