  • Check out the classifieds here at Art Fair Insiders.  I see that some new items have been added and maybe there is something there you might like.

  • I have a set of Armstrong panels for sale if you are still interested....see the classifieds.  I just posted it yesterday and I am not too, too far away from you.  Possibly could even deliver them if you are interested (they are virtually identical to pro-panels).  Mary @ 317-730-7221 or redpines@hotmail.com

    • Hello Mary,

Thanks so much for the heads up, but I no longer need panels.

  • What a nice thread...welcome to all three of you.
    • Thanks Connie!
      • Hey Jim, Yolanda and Connie,

I've mentioned a few times before, I'm a newbie to the summer show circuit this year too. I had NO idea how fierce the competition would be/is to get into shows. I didn't have a booth shot as I began to submit my images and applications for the shows I hoped to be in. The first show I applied to was the Krasel show. I had no idea of the background history and or prestige attached to this show. The shows location in St. Joesph, MI was my attraction, the location made sense to me because of what I paint.  I submitted my application on one of the first days application were accepted. A very kind woman responded to my application almost immediately regarding my lack of a booth shot. She suggested that I submit one additional image in place of the booth pic. So I did. I have continued to do that as I applied to the remainder of the shows I want to exhibit at. I did not get into Krasel-learned after the fact that roughly 850 applications were received for what turned out to be about 12 open spaces! But I was thrilled to be accepted into the next two shows I applied to. Still waiting on 6 more responses.

But my point is...I never would have considered including an additional painting in place of a booth shot had not the very kind and patient woman from the Krasel show suggested it. I was extremely discouraged after pouring over all the different threads at this wonderful website. I talked with old friends who have been the summer circuit for many years and was even more discouraged when I listened to their 'booth shot' stories. I figured without a booth shot I would NEVER get into the juried shows this summer. So I dialed down my goals for the summer of 2011 to just enter the smaller local shows and get a great booth shot.

Good luck Jim, there are many, many different paths to achieve our goals. We need to be open to what the universe presents to us-open and recognize a gift when we receive it.

  • Lynda and Yolanda,

I'm just getting started in art shows this year also.  How do you handle turning in a booth shot if you're just putting together everything.  I've purchased the tent, but now I'm looking at panels to display my relief carvings that hang (I'm a wood carver).  Do you borrow equipment and set it up to take a picture or can you apply without the booth shot?

Thanks for the link to the Graphic systems, this is what I need also.

    Jim

    • Hi Jim!

I recomend setting up a tent in yr backyard and displaying your pieces as best possible, even if it means borrowing some stands or display system or just being creative in displaying and take pictures.  or if it's a local small show, you can call and explain your situation and see what their response is, they may take your situation into consideration.

Same with your art, you will have to be creative and take clear images of your work to submit...I take photos and crop on photoshop.  or just make sure images of your pieces have a profesional looking background.

      Best of Luck to you!

  • Hi Yolanda,

I'm in the Chicagoland area too! What is your medium and how is it that you've decided that purchasing pro-panels is the way to go? I'm not questioning your reasoning, just wondering at how your arrived at your decision. I'm getting my booth together for the summer shows and need to made some decisions about how to display my work.

    Sincerely,

    Lynda Wallis

    • Hi Lynda!

You know, it was really for cosmetic reasons.  Pro Panels look proffessional, but because they are soo expensive, I decided to see what deals are availabe for used panels.

I display plexiglas and glass art that I frame or either mount on to a canvas for display.  I currently use the Graphic Display racks that work great for me, but I was just considering pro panels for more of a gallery look.

Think that I'm going to stick with the display racks for this Summer and just purchase the covers for them and see how this works out.

What is the medium that you work with?

      Yolanda
