  • Yes. Florida is a very saturated market, and in its self is nothing to get excited about. I did several of HA shows last year (2014) and never did good. All in all, Florida seems to be a very shabby market, just too many old people, not enough excitement stirred up for the shows, and just not like it was years ago.

If you can avoid Florida, do it at all cost!

    • thanks for your input.

Which US region is known for it's well attended and buyer-ship in the winter?

      • Where is home base for you, and what is you medium and style?

A lot of it depends on what you make and what your markets are, ie, who buys your art.

My art is modern fine art, so I usually stick to urban cores, or larger cities.

I travel throughout the US, so some of my better shows have been Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Baltimore, I even did pretty good at a show in Wichita Ks this year.

As for Florida though, it is a very rough market throughout. If I was to go again for art shows down there I would stick to the Atlantic side. People are little more funky and less concerned about what their friends will think of their art. The Gulf coast is totally roasted in my opinion. The patrons on that side seems to be into buying the same model of Maserati as their neighbor, but a different color.

        • I see you are from MT and you do watercolor map work.

You might do better than most in Florida with that kinda work. Also, it does seem that the Gulf coast is more "Tommy Bahama" than the Atlantic side.

Don't let me discourge you too much, because you could kill it. But don't hold you breath, that's for sure.

          Best of luck down there!

          • I'm taking a big leap heading down there, but I can stay with family. It's also nice to get out of the cold for a while. But it's nice to get a heads up that I shouldn't bet the farm on it! Thank you!
