In addition to high booth fees, this festival requires atleast 4 nites in a hotel during one of the most popular weekends in south Florida. While discounts are available, the hotel rooms are still rather costly. I don't know if there is interest from either artists or patrons but I would be willing to try to coordinate a program between artists and patrons where the patrons invite artists to stay at their homes. I am going to try to get a list of patrons from the CGAF office but I don't want to rely solely on them for names of patrons. I am trying to gauge the interest from you, the artists about a program like this and also would you be willing to share your mailing list for south florida so I can contact patrons to see if they are willing. Please let me know your thoughts.

  • I pasted this link in my browser and it isn't correct. Tried -.biz, -net, too, with the same (non)-result. Could you check the URL and re-post?
  • As the director for Art Fair on the Square in Madison, WI, I have just started looking into this idea. Unfortunately this lodging for artists site doesn't seem to be working at the moment, is it just under construction?
Because Art Fair on the Square is a fundraiser for the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, I am thinking of asking Museum members, volunteers and staff to consider housing artists for the weekend. I think it would be a great benefit not just for the artists, but for those who are willing to house them. Art Fair is such a large event in our city that people seem to enjoy getting a "backstage" view of the event - this may be a nice way to give that to them.
  • Detta,

Do you have any experience with this new network, that actually I did report on a month or so ago? It is a great idea whose time has come.

Out of the article came the posting from Geri who is connected with CGAF as a volunteer and enthusiastic art collector...she is very interested in connecting artists with housing during that festival.
    • FYI--Lodging4artists does not have any south Florida locations at this time. We are entering the busiest time for the South Florida art season (including, dare I say, Howard Allan shows ;-) ) and there are a lot of festivals from Boca to the Keys beginning in January.
  • Check out lodging4artists.com
Believe this is just getting off the ground, but they do have Florida locations.
