Does anyone have a lead on a decently priced hotel/motel in St. Joe this weekend, July 8-10? I'm finding them around $150, surely someone here has some suggestions. Thanks.

  • Also try AirBnB.com This is a site that lets you book rooms in people's houses. You have access to the house, kitchen, bathroom and your own bedroom. It's less expensive then a regular BnB because these people are only doing it part-time, and on their schedule. We have used it 3 times and just love it. It also gives you a chance to visit with the locals in a much more relaxed setting. It was started by a guy who offered space in his house for people coming into town & throwing down an air mattress for them to sleep on. Nifty idea---you'll notice when you book it, one of the comments in the lodging section will say if it's a 'real bed', or futon, or air mattress. It's worth checking it out.
    • Thanks for this tip, Ann Marie. I'm going to be in Ann Arbor on Wednesday and Thursday and was at a loss as to where to stay -- got a great room from AirBnB.com not far from campus, great rate. I'm going to try this again.

Don't know if anyone notices those google ads at the top of this site -- they amazingly track what people are talking about on the site and offer ads on that topic. AirBnB.com started showing up last week after you posted this and I clicked in through it and found my room. Very cool.

    • This was interesting...came up with one choice (that was geographically convenient) -- still, traveling with a friend and don't know if I can ask her to try this. Cool site, Ann Marie. I'm definitely revisiting this one another day.

I also checked out Sara Stephens suggestion at lodging.com -- heck, there isn't a room along the Lake Michigan coast this weekend! Don't be coming expecting to find a place, I guess. I did book a room awhile back but keep not liking what I'm paying for it. Now I'm stuck with it -- life goes on. I'm going to have a great time in St. Joe and that is part of the price.

Thanks for the help and good suggestions Bo, Leo, Ann Marie and Sara.

  • Connie, I got a Priceline bid on a three star Courtyard Marriott in Benton Harbor for $58 (several weeks ago). Hopefully it will still be available. I'm looking forward to meeting you at Krasl. -- LC
    • Just tried this, can't find anything within 25 miles that is at least a 2 star...bidding $80. I used to be good at Priceline. Looks like I've lost my touch.
