Hello! So I have found myself without a juried art show until third week of August...which has been good for vacation, but not so much for the wallet! I was interested in picking up show from late June-end of July; but of course, the ones I know all had their application deadlines ages ago.

But then I got an email from Zapp, for late applications for the Glencoe Festival of Art.

I've done some Amdur shows before, and know they have a pretty wide range of who they accept/who comes to shop. I've been away from most of their shows for a couple of years (booth fee, schedule, etc have kept me away). I've had some pretty good shows with them, and some real stinkers. They are nice promoters and are supportive; but I don't want to lose $$ if I take on a last minute "late application" for a show that might be lousy. I'm also a jeweler; and I've had some moments of being at Amdur shows (and some others) where there's a TON of jewelry, and some are way, WAY underpriced / poorly made / buy-sell. So, I tend to be picky.

Anyone done this show? Recently? The only reviews I've found are from around 2011.

Thanks in advance!

  • I see that you create jewelry.  I do also.  I call or email those shows who are asking for late entries.  Since jewelry always seems to fill first.  I have sent in late entries where I understood later the jewelry category was filled before they asked for the late entries, and I just gave them my application $ for nothing.

  • Stay home.  If artists are still needed to fill a show at this date, it means the majority of artists already know to stay away.  This producer is having trouble filling some of her other shows which is another clue to stay away.

Is she charging a late fee over and above her usual fee?  (I would hope not, she isn't doing you any favors).

    • Geri- I don't think there's a late fee. But your point about filling the show is definitely a good one. I've been getting a number of invites for "late applications" for Amdur shows this and last year. Seeing as I haven't done one of her shows the last couple of years, I do wonder if people are starting to keep away...

  • Elizabeth, have you ever looked at our www.CallsforArtists.com?  We have shows listed there that are looking for artists.  You just might find a show there.
