MY COMMENTS ON THIS SHOW ARE BASED ON MY WIFE ELLEN'S PARTICIPATION AS AN EXHIBITOR--first off Lee County, Florida is in the toilet with some of the highest unemployment and foreclosures in the nation--that is where the show is. Ellen said there was no shortage of people attending but most had their hands in their pockets. She ended up with a big goose-egg for the show as well as a lot of other painters. The one exception being a wildlife painter and friend of ours who just killed them with sales. He does it anywhere he goes--he is a very blessed artist and I wish we all could be like him. The show had spotty successes. For everyone artist who did good there were nine that did not do well. Pertsonally, I would avoid doing shows in this area for the near future unless you got killer low end sales for traditional minded people.. There just isn't enough of them out there buying. Love to hear how anybody else did last weekend in Florida. I am doing all this reporting/writing and getting very little feedback--Aloha, Nels.

  • A good friend of mine, Marilu Patterson, called me from Fort Myers at noon of the second day of Fort Myers to tell me she had a good first day. She also said the crowds were large and the weather was great.

I sent her an invitation to join our group and I expect her to sign up this week. She can post her observations.

I'm most interested how people did at Boca and the Grove.
    • I did Boca and the Grove. Both were good, though the expectations are much higher for the Grove. I did over $2200 at Boca and more than twice that at the Grove. Both had patrons that gave me a hard time on collecting sales tax and one guy at the Grove bought a $229 piece and wanted it shipped to Maine, but flatly refused to pay shipping. I did the deal, of course.

The last time I did the Grove (2005) only did $300 more than this time, so I feel I'm doing some thing right. If I had to say, I'd say its my new work.... Keep producing!
