I've done shows for a few years now in Florida mostly in Southwest Florida, because that's where I live.  The shows have been hit or miss, but at least I haven't spent a lot of money on travel.  I know that shows are WAY over saturated in Florida (throw a stone and you're liable to hit 3 of them!) so for next year I'm thinking about trying shows in the Northern part of the country.  What I would be interested in hearing is from folks who do shows in Florida and elsewhere.  Do you find that your sales are better in the less saturated markets?

Thanks,

Rich

  • Yes, I was really depressed when I had to move from Florida.  I thought, eight years of building contacts and mailing lists down the drain.  My first show in Virginia I doubled my average sales for a show and that has continued.  Now when I have a "bad" show I have to remind myself that I would have been happy with that number in Florida. YMMV since I haven't been back to Florida in 3 years but not only is Florida over saturated they are lagging behind many areas in recovering from the recession.

    • It makes a kind of sense that the middle East Coast would be a fertile field. So much of the employment there is of the government variety and they appear to be recession proof and have ever expanding incomes.

Thanks for that thought Allison. I may reconsider my dislike for out of state travel.

Mr Grant, I checked your website. That's some mighty fine stuff. I wouldn't  be surprised that the nature stuff will sell anywhere and the Exteriors should be on the cover of any industry related magazine.

      • Jack:  Thank you for your kind words.  I used to wonder whether my work was good enough, but now I think its a matter of finding the right market.

Allison:  I have relatives in the DC area so I might be headed your way next summer.

I'll bet a hundred dollars that thought plagues everybody.
