It appears that a few of our shows have switched to EntryThingy instead of mailing in apps/images.  So Yeah!!  I can do it all online instead of filling out forms, putting images on CDs, instead it's all electronic and the ZAPP image requirements are the same for EntryThingy.

However, one difference that I've seen on the first 2 apps I was reviewing was the request to include a resume in the profile section.  There's a section for artist statement and another section for resume.

Any suggestions on what to include in the resume section since I'm assuming they want really only the artist resume, not any previous corporate or other jobs worked.

So far this is what I'm including:

A very short statement on how/why we got started (most of this is already in the artist statement)

Education - including any specialized courses or training related specifically to our medium

Selected Previous Show participation - trying to either include just the bigger shows we've done or if there are 2nd tier shows where we've done well for multiple year.

Current Gallery exhibitions

Past Gallery Exhibitions

Retail locations

Any other suggestions?  Anything we're including that you think is irrelevant?

  • Very cool. I really like the EntryThingy.com applications. At a jury I was running last Spring one of the jurors said an artist statement should be what you are doing and why, who you are as an artist, more theory than actual. Then for the resume I'd definitely lead off with training, materials used, special techniques you've developed, what is special about your work - in a sort of quantifiable way (not "inspired by nature I watch the sunset" stuff), and definitely include the names of a few of the biggest shows you have done. Looks like you've got it, Ruth.

    • Thanks Connie, I really like all these online tools, so much easier than filling out the paper apps and mailing in a CD.  So much easier to manage when we are on the road.
