Has anyone else received a survey from the Naples Art Association?  This March the fifth avenue show had the hours extended to 7 pm.  For me and everyone around me the extra hours were a total waste - there was no one there.  Now they are considering extending the hours to 10 pm with electricity for lighting.  This is along with a 4 am setup time making for an 18 hour day - not counting driving.  Can anyone possibly think this is a good idea?

  • Maybe they're looking for a reason to sell electricity to the exhibitors? that's crazy, bad enough to sit around until 7, let alone until 10?

We had a show in Michigan, went from , 5-9pm preview day,on Friday ... then 9am-9 pm 2nd day , Saturday 11-6 the last, Sunday that was bad enough...

I find the longer the hours and  more days, people feel less urgency to buy...

    • As I like to make an issue about security, I will throw this out for you- the longer the show hours, the less hours for the show promoters to be concerned about overnight security.

I have heard comments about another show that I do that stays open later. It has been mentioned to me that it helps the show promoters out. If the artists stay in their booths until later, that is less hours to be concerned about empty booths to guard.

  • This is not good for anyone! Maybe restaurants and food vendors. Why don't you contact them? Who do they think they are, Ann Arbor??

  • That's insane. I used to live there, show isn't good for sales, but a good write off for a vacation.. 7pm , for what to keep sitting around...  vacation write off not good enough reason to do the show with hours until 7..I bet merchants are freaking out... longer hours...

  • That is a marathon and especially doesn't make sense for anyone considering the late hours if there is no electricity..but there is a simple solution...don't apply.
