custom tablecovers?

Hi!  I have upgraded my booth, and I purchased the 4-foot tables that fold in the middle (from Sam's) that were discussed in another thread.  I like that they will telescope to 36" tall.

Does anyone know of a good source for fitted table covers?  Collector's House can have this size custom made for $135 each.  I was looking for a cheaper solution.  I only find fitted covers for 6' and 8' tables that are 30" high when I do internet searches.

What does everyone do for table covers that match and look classy?

Thanks,

Pat

  • I purchased a satin king sheet set (on sale) in a neutral creamy beige- very pretty, and trimmed it with black fringe 2-3 inches long. From the flat sheet I got 1 table cover and two step riser covers. I haven't used the fitted sheet or pillow cases yet. I have those in reserve for later expansion. My table is 34 inches high and 8 feet long. I also use 2, 3, and 4 step risers. These help me display quite a bit of jewelry on ONE table. I do not drape the back of the table- that is my storage area- and it is much more convenient for me to not drape- I just attached velcro fasteners in 3 areas on the table edge, and the table cloth- this prevents the satin from slipping during set-up and display. I will be using the new covers tomorrow. Will post pix soon.
  • I just finished all 8 tableclothes, had to purchase a king sheet set, and used all of the fabric including the pillow cases for usable fabric. My tables are 20x48" and 28" tall. I overlapped the front by 6 inches so I have access to my bins under the table.

I needed 145" by 29 1/2" piece of fabric, and I did piece pieces together to get the length. One king sheet set was $38 and completed all four table clothes.

I am now covering bungy cords with muslin, I hate looking at my different colored bungies, I use bundgies to anchor my grid walls, just sewing fabric around so the color can not be seen. I know it is crazy but it will make me feel better about my booth appearence.

  • I just discovered those tables at Sam's, too. I'm planning to make my own fitted covers, using restaurant tablecloths. I shopped around and found LinenTablecloth.com to have the best prices. These are quite big pieces of fabric to work with, cheaper than by the yard, I think. A 60 x 126 tablecloth--that's 3.5 yds--is about $11.
  • Just finished 4 out of 8 table clothes, and yes I do sew. One hint, cut the top out first allowing an inch or so bigger than the table top. I rounded the corners so I could create pleats to go around the the corner edges, I also overlapped the front piece by 6 or so inches enabling me to get into the stuff I will place underneath my tables. Quite happy with my results, sure beats paying 50 bucks per table cloth.

After the first one, went pretty good, now off to WalMart for more ploy fabric, hopeully they have some bargain fabric at 2 bucks!@

Hope this helps you, and good luck!
  • Thanks Chris for the tip about polyester material from Wal-Mart. I do sew - well, I have sewn. I have a machine, but haven't used it in a while. I actually made myself 2 pleated table skirts for an 8' table and a 10' table - the type tables you can rent at many art fairs. After making those 2 table skirts, I swore I'd never do it again. I'm hanging on to them, but they are not 36" high, and that's the problem. I got lucky for these 2 skirts because I bought a whole bolt of material from a friend at a highly discounted price.

Chris - When you made your fitted table skirts from the polyester, did you cut 4 pieces of material & then sew them together at the corners (& at the opening in the back, of course)?

    Thanks,
    Pat
  • I have had an interesting several days looking around the internet trying to find 'decently' priced table skirting. I even went so far as to contact some linen manufacturers in China.......their prices and photos were great but then they add upwards of $200 to ship.........lol. Geez! I even had an online chat with a representative from a wedding linen place that ended up with her telling me she "thinks" so and so would fit my tables?

I wish I could sew and it's looking more and more like I'm going to have to learn soon. I know now what I want my booth to look like and how I want my tables set up etc........they're just not going to have tablecovers.......lol.

I do have two friends that are going to try to help me ...... one has suggestions and the other sews.....keep your toes and fingers crossed for me because right now I just cannot afford the prices for four table skirts or fitted tablecovers :-(

    Pat,
This all sounds pretty expensive! I hate to sew, but when I bought all of my tables, I also purchased some really inexpensive polyester fabric from Walmart and made my own fitted covers. They are smooth rather than pleated and have slits in the back so I can stash thing easily. The polyester won't wrinkle, and it just goes right into my plastic bins when I'm done, adding extra padding for my pottery. They are washable, and don't need ironing. So I ended up with 4 (now I only use 3) skirts for basically pennies. I put tablecloths over the tops for more color in the booth. If you really DON'T sew, maybe you can find a friend or relative to help. It was just a lot of measuring and straight seams, so someone who is an artist ought to be able to do it... ;-) Good luck finding what you want.

    Hi All-

I found my e-mail from Jeffrey Ebert at Collector House. I was wrong about the price at Collector House; I was remembering the price for 2 fitted tablecovers. He quoted (before Christmas) $65 for a fitted tablecovering for a 4-foot by 36" high table + UPS shipping. He also sent me a swab of material so I could see if it would match what I already have for my booth. I think the average size height tablecovering is $49.

I also went to premiertablelinens.com. They have a calculator built into their website. Table skirting with shirred pleats for a 4-foot x 36"H table is $78. The same thing with boxed pleats is $111.00 each.

    That's my research so far.

  • Here's another resource:

They make tents and other festival supplies so you know the covers are sturdy and made to stand up to art fairs.
