To supplement my income, I have been photographing and selling geodes online for a friend. Some of them photograph beautifully with minimal effort on my part. However, I can never draw out the sparkle of the crystals. Does anyone have any suggestions? The beauty of these items aren't showing through nearly as much as they should. Thanks!

Macro settings then zoom in. Wet it and use different bulbs. I use daylight bulbs and play with the light settings. I start with a "all over" shot (like what you have) then I find a focal point and zoom in and hit it in different light settings - sometimes super bright will let the pieces sparkle.
Are you using straight naked bulbs on your products? If so, then make a box, cut holes in the sides and tape tissue paper, the tissue paper filters the light so you can get in tighter - does that make sense? I will have to try that. I have been using natural light at different times of day with different backgrounds. I'm going to need to set up some artificial light in the house now that it is starting to get cold here in Iowa. It's always so gloomy here during the winter!

I photograph the items I sell either on photo paper (shiny and distraction free) or wall paper that has texture.
Hope this helps. I know building the poor mans lightbox really helped me out.
