  • I don't know Connie, it's next Saturday in Woodfield Mall. That mall is a nightmare on weekends and that's the day I am creating better because I can relax from picking up kids from school, grocery shopping, all all those things. I'll let you know if I go! But I would love to see his work. He will be there only from 5:00-8:00

  • So funny, I just got an invitation today in the mail for a gallery in Schaumburg IL to meet world renowned artist:Charles Fazzino

    • I'll bet he has great marketing information. Going to go?

  • OMG! Another "famous" person. I just saw this headline in the Palm Springs online edition:

Famed sculptor to showcase at Palm Springs Fine Art Fair and had to investigate further. C-19515-02.jpg?width=250

Who would this famed sculptor be? No one other than Marc Sijan, who has been set up next to many of us for years. Read the article and learn even more about Marc.

    • Seeing this reminds me of one of the most bizarre art thefts in art fair history. Perhaps some of the "old timers" remember this. Marc Sijan was exhibiting at the KC Plaza, I believe, when his figurative sculpture (similar to the one pictured here) was stolen off its pedestal. When Marc saw it was missing, he was asking around if anyone noticed someone carrying a scantilly clad female under their arm. No one, evidently, noticed - which is bizarre, it itself. The news media published a photo of the stolen piece, asking for the public's help in recovering it. A couple of weeks later, police received a call from the owner of an apartment building. Apparently, maintenance had entered an apartment and the person recognized the sculpture on display as being the one stolen, and notified the owner of the building, who called the police. The police got a warrant and were able to arrest the thief. However, (this is another bizarre twist to this tale), the sculpture was ruined because the thief had applied suntan oil or lotion to the surface of the female.

      • LOL! I've never heard that one, although there have to be lots of stories about Marc and his work. The photographers for the papers always chose his booth to feature, the crowds loved the work. Remember the stanchions with the cords to keep the people away from the work? He is still doing shows though, isn't he? I think I saw him last summer at AA.

  • Wow!! Love it!! Thanks for sharing!

  • You know, Ginny, I watched that episode on CBS Sunday morning yesterday and kept thinking he looked familiar. Thanks for this reminder. Isn't that a wonderful story? So many now successful people have passed through the art fairs.

It also got me thinking about many people who we spent lots of hours with over the years in various cities. Specifically I was wondering about Fran and Hal Larsen. Any idea what became of them?

    • The Larsens are all in Santa Fe. I always look for Ted's work there in the galleries and usually come upon Hal's, as well.

      I've always loved Ted's sculptures!

Speaking of artists that we haven't seen in a while. When I went to a client's home about commission work here in Mpls., they had a David McCarthy hanging on the wall! Miss him and his work, too!

      • So glad to hear the Larsens are still at it. Wonderful artists, each of them. Class all the way and could Hal ever make the sales happen!

        Whatever happened to David?

Recently I saw a beautiful piece by Stephen Sebastian in a thrift shop (of course, Stephen is still with us doing shows, so that explains it ;)
