  • Hi Patty. I'm a mixed media painter from the Miami FL area and I just joined here. I read your post from last December, which mentioned that you had been accepted into Art Deco Miami for January 2014. Please tell me about that show. Did you go? How was it? I have looked this show up on Google and can't find any info on it. I would be very interested in applying, since it's in my home area. Thanks!

  • I used to live in Naples but moved back to Ohio 5 years ago to take care of family. I'm fairly new to shows so I'm still trying to find good shows myself.  Jewellery is harder than I expected  since it seems  hard to get in with so many jewellers and not much buying.

If you have most pieces under $100 you should do well, I don't have much in the $100 range with silver and gold.. Being in Ohio,it's really hard, no family or friends in Florida to stay with to help with expenses, so driving 1000 miles or more one way and hotels really make it hard to  cover expenses...

Best show so far for me was Disney since I won an award and got some commissions from Disney and Warner Bros... I think you'd do well in Winter Park,I actually did pretty good there. Naples shows ,there are so many that unless you live nearby,I wouldn't do them. I've heard Bonita Springs shows do better, so I'm trying the one in Feb.

    • Thanks Michelle, Well staying for 3 mos in a mobile home at a 55+park in Naples this year. I did apply to both annual Naples shows so I'll let you know how they go. Too late for Winter Park tho'and too late for Bonita Springs..Dang. ..would have liked to have met you. Also considering a Sarasota show in March. Congrats on your Disney show award. It is a lot of expense so will hope to do lots of green mkts to get thru and pay the rent. It worked out last year on the other side of the state so here's hoping this side is as good., Appreciate your comments!

      • Patti, I always do the Naples Artcrafters show on the second Saturday of the month, November through April.  They are at Cambier Park in downtown Naples.  Unfortunately, this is a local only show, so you would not be eligible to apply.  However, if you are in the area, stop by and see me if you get a chance.    My booth is always located on Sixth Ave near the bandstand.

  • The Chamber South Miami show was slow. I sold one ring and am doing a matching necklace. Might get lucky and get orders later... closer to  Christmas...

    • Michelle, Do you still live in Naples? How is the art scene there? I have applied to the 26th annual fest downtown in March 22-23 and the 35th annual one. I hope they are good; and also going to try and jury in for art in the park. Just wondering if you have any comments? thanks a bunch! Patty

P.s. kinda glad I didn't apply to the rotary one in Miami!

      • The Chamber South Miami show was slow.

In answer to your questions about art fairs in Naples.  I have not done Art in the Park yet this year.  I am a juried member of the Art in the Park shows, but only do it when I do not have another one.  It is extremely small.  It used to be a great show, but has dwindled since the prices were raised significantly a few years ago.  They have just recently lowered the prices for the Jan - Mar shows, but not much.  I plan to do the December show.

I do not do the two-day shows in Naples.  They are expensive.  I am local.  There are others around. There are usually a huge number of applicants for all the shows and jewelers make up the a high percentage of the applicants (as in most shows).

There are usually several art shows within a 50 mile radius of Naples every weekend during season.  I do several one day shows in the area.  Each month I usually do at least one two-day show outside of Naples.  Just finished doing two this weekend. These are shows of which I am a regular juried member.  Many of the "two day shows" seem to prefer non-locals for their shows and waitlist us if anything.

Good luck on your applications in the area.

        • thanks for your info Charlotte..and Michelle..by the way from OH here as well. I dont know if I should try to jury in then to art in the park; going to try the Marco Island green mkt on Wed. Would you mind sharing any orgs I might contact for good shows during season in Marco; could not seem to find any! Leaving Jan 1st and staying thru March so still getting a schedule together; the work of an artist just never ends!! Thanks ev1!!

  • Charlotte, did you do the Miami show? I didn't get out much to look around... It was a slow show from many had said, we sold a ring and got an order for a necklace... I was in booth 23.

Most of the artists near me sold mainly $20-$50 items....

    • I found it to be a slow show.  I sold a necklace and several pairs of earrings.  It was not good enough for for a two day show that I had to pay for a hotel, meals and transportation.  The good news is that I won an award for my jewelry!

I really felt like I was in South America on Sunday.  It reminded me of being on the plaza with everyone in town strolling around and visiting with one another, not attending an art show.  Nice crowd, well organized, but probably not my market.  I was disappointed.
