Booth or tent lighting options

I need to update lighting for my art tent and am looking for something that can run off an inverter and deep cycle battery for when electricity is not available. I'm considering LED or halogen, or other. Any suggestions or cost info would be helpful. Thanks!

  • Here's another option for supplies.  www.direct-lighting.com  Much less expensive than Lamps Plus.

  • I'm going to try these out at a show this weekend - I'll post an update on how well they worked. I lit them up tonight and they're pretty darn bright! just hoping that the light isn't too cool for presenting paintings. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000R9P4GE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_...

    • I hope they suit you. They will not be very bright in daylight and will not offer even lighting. I have individual battery- powered. LED spots with 5 LEDS rather than three which run on batteries. However they are too blue and way under-powered for anything other than complete darkness.
      • yeah, They probably won't do much. They seem bright, but I'm sure that will diminish rather quickly as the batteries go. I was really excited after I got these the other night, but that is probably wishful thinking ;)

  • James I got my shadeless track light fixtures from lowes online. You can see them in my feb 4 post on the led system discussion. I got mine on close out and they ran about 10$ each. The satco LED bulbs were 17 watt with a 5000k color temp and a standard medium screw base just like a regular light bulb. It is important to consider buying the satco bulbs as they use a panel of 50+ LEDs per bulb and offer various beam spreads. I am using the 60 degree beam spread. If you read through that lighting discussion, you can find just about everything I bought, where I bought it and how much it cost. A lot of my shopping used google's shopping tab. Look for my friend roequest.
  • We  are running low voltage led spots and low voltage fans from two marine batteries. One battery is in a trolling motor cases with two sockets on 10 amp breakers for low voltage accessories and one is in a WalMart battery box with a socket attached to terminal leads. I have all the parts listed in previous posts on AFI. Search lighting or low voltage lighting. I bought everything at Amazon, WalMart, Auto Zone, and Radio Shack. The LED spots had to be rewired to run on low voltage. The set up runs 8-9 hours about 25% of my available power. I will probably add more LED spots by this fall. I have added a photo from a recent indoor show. The LED's are on three 3 spot strips attached to the stabilizer bars. Wiring runs over the stabilizer bars to the batteries sitting on small furniture dollies behind the back corner of the booth. The lighting was terrible in this facility so I used the lights to remedy the problem. We had a corner location so the panels are configured to provided access from both sides open to  the public. We have not sold many paintings yet, but people love our setup.301653117?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024981295914?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

    • Thanks John: I checked out past posts and found an overload (no pun intended) of info.  Did you end up using 12 volt LEDs and no inverter.  It looked like like you previously used an inverter (I saw a pic of battery on dolly with inverter on top).  Where did  you get the light strips you are currently using?  Thanks.

      • No I never used an inverter. I went low voltage right from the start. That picture belongs to someone else. I have an inverter that works, but so far I have had no need for it. One disclaimer, we have not done a show that closed after dark yet. That is why I am going to add three or six more of the LED spots for fall.

        • Do you recommend a source for 12 v light fixtures where I don't have to do any home re-wiring...not sure how to do the re-wire?  Thanks.

          • There is a company called Lamps Plus that sells them, but they are considerably more expensive.
