Hi gang! This is my initial post and happens to be my first year participating in art festivals. I'm a digital artist and have been a belted to a number of shows in the (relative) area (Philly). What I've quickly come to find is that when I have a young crowd (Three Rivers, Manayunk), sales are way up. Conversely, when the crowd's been a little older, sales have dipped significantly (Scarsdale, though weather didn't help). I was curious if you could offer any advice as to what shows are known for drawing younger crowds (20-45) as opposed to others. Anywhere in the country would be fine as I plan on making a full go of this next year and hope to do 25+ shows. Thanks in advance! Jason

  • Look to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.  Namely the Stockley Gardens shows and the Ocean View Art Show in Norfolk.  They both have good entertainment, and are in areas that draw all ages.  Portsmouth, VA, also has two good festivals, Gosport in May, Seawall in August.  Virginia Beach has three shows on the Boardwalk.  The traditional Boardwalk Art Show in June, the Surf and Art show Memorial Day weekend, and the Neptune Festival in September.  They all draw various ages.

You can usually put 2 or more shows together in this area. Not too far from Philly, either!  If you need more information on the shows in this area, let me know.

  • Often, Jason, I've found that the more "event" festivals work better for younger people. Photographer Bruce Reinfeld loves the big festivals where lots of young people come out for the entertainment and the good time as well as the art. Here is his FB page: https://www.facebook.com/brucereinfeldphotography

I'm thinking offhand: Artscape in Baltimore, Arts, Beats & Eats in Detroit area.

  • Beverly Hills seems to draw a younger crowd.
