An email went out not even an hour ago from the Bayou City Art Festival, that not only is everyone who was doing the show getting their booth fee back. A benefactor kicked in over $500,000 and artists are getting an additional $1,500. Even though I didn't apply and am not doing it, I am extremely grateful and overjoyed that they are doing this. I don't know the details, whether someone or group donated it on their own or the show committee solicited it. This is something that could snowball if the idea was put out there. Many of the people who have supported us with purchases or just come to the shows to enjoy our creative talents are very wealthy. This could happen with every show. Judging from how the FB art fair artists sites are gushing with praises and thank you's, we, are incredibly grateful.

  • I'm with you Barry! This is an amazing gift. I spoke with the folks at Bayou City not long ago to see if they wanted to have any input on the podcasts and blogs we were doing and they told me they were still processing the cancellation and working to get things together, all lined up, before we'd be hearing from them.  And did we hear from them!!

And on this topic this just confirms my thoughts that I am grateful that I've been in this business all these years and always told people that it is the most supportive community, people who care about each other. The proof is in the pudding, not only is there a lot of commiseration and sadness from the organizers of the events in their messages to artists, almost all shows have fully refunded, grants from arts organizations are pouring in (like the Artist Relief Fund organized by Zapp - $10,000,000 in $5000 grants). Shows are turning their websites inside out to put up virtual shows ... you tell me what I'm missing here.
