If you are in the Midwest the really two big shows this weekend are both in Chicago, the very fine American Craft Expo in Evanston and Amy Amdur's flagship show in Highland Park, the Port Clinton Art Fair. Will you be there?

Where will you be and what is happening in your world? Maybe we can arrange a meetup.

Best wishes to all who were anticipating good events this weekend on the East Coast. Our thoughts are with you and all the organizers who have spent time and money to make those events possible.

  • Watching the hurricane from my windows (maybe the front porch). And checking on the basement regularly. Just noticed two foundation cracks that are letting water in.
  • I plan to go to Port Clinton and Highland Park to see if I can AFFORD to enter either of them next year.
    • Lynda, I am going to visit the show. When are you going? I'm planning on tomorrow (Sat) morning LMK
    • This ought be pretty interesting as to what you decide, Lynda. There is a lot of high priced work at Port Clinton, and fabulous work at Evanston at the American Craft Expo. Even though you don't do fine craft you might find it worthwhile to visit that show also -- a great arena for learning about display, what works and what doesn't. Here is the real skinny - as someone earlier this week said in another discussion - at any given show someone is having their best show ever and at the same show someone is having their worst show ever.
  • I'm looking forward to the Bucktown show! I hope to see some of you there.

We batten down the hatches and said good bye to our home on Thursday as we traveled to the Bucktown show in Chicago. Not sure what state it will be when we return. We live near the coast of Virginia and in Irene's path (a few hours from the outer banks). It will be surreal, enjoying the perfect temps and sunny skys of Chicago while the hurricane makes landfall in Virginia. I rode out Isabel in 2003 and that was enough. We will race back on Monday to begin dealing with the aftermath.

    • Can't imagine the mixed feelings you must be having, Leo, leaving home at this time. We'd love a Bucktown report on your return.

Here's an article I just came across about Bucktown:  http://neighborhoods.redeyechicago.com/bucktown-wicker-park/art-sce...

    • Hope your home survives the ordeal, Leo. Just having our basement flood occasionally is enough ordeal for me. Best of luck in Bucktown!
  • I will be at the Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts in IL.   My booth number is 30 - I have a beautiful view of the Lake Ellyn.  Looking forward to it.
    • I don't have my booth number yet, but I'll look for you there!
      • Amy, I will look for you too.  Hope the nice weather will bring out the customers.
