  • I think that's a personal preference. I've done that, if I've had time to make prints of work that's still available. But sometimes it gets more challenging to get a really good color/value (d-max) match on a print, especially when there are a lot of dark values involved. So I've kinda gone away from that and will usually only carry prints of sold work. (plus I'm just lazy with restocking prints.)

On the other hand, it can be a selling point to show how much BETTER the original looks compared to a print, lol.

If your dilemma is based on the fear that prints will undercut your sales of originals, just make sure your prints are priced high enough...  Pricing is it's own topic full of all kinds of variables. Recently I've had decent luck with not bringing prints at all (4 art fests this spring, and no prints on hand) and only dispaying originals. There are some collectors who will love your work but will habitually gravitate to the least expensive option. If that's a $95 print... or a $350 original...?

Instead, if asked, I have a little list of print prices/sizes that i show them and they can "order a print of anything they see here or on my website, and get free shipping if they order here at the event" it's worked a couple of times. But honestly I think I've been selling more originals by not bringing prints. (but I paint fast and mostly small works.)

Of course it will also depend on the venue, and avarage price point of the buyers there.
    Hope this helps!
