I'm doing Howard Alan's Alexandria show for the first time in another week.  My husband is coming with me to help out so that will make things easier.  I've already seen that parking is going to be an issue.  My first hotel choice had a garage with only 6' clearance.  Doable with the van but very very scary.  I ended up getting a hotel a little further away with free parking.

Any suggestions for making setup and breakdown easier?

Are the booths back to back in the middle of the street or against the curb?  I have two different setups I can do, one with a back door, one without.

Is there anything else I need to be prepared for?

Is this one where setup begins at exactly the time specified or is it possible to arrive earlier and unload?

Thanks.

  • Hi Alison, this will be my first time at Alexandria as well.  I am glad you asked this question.  I will be by myself but I am staying at Monaco, hopefully that will make it a bit easier for me.  I have been warned that the booth spots are tight all the way around, but we should be able to find parking not far from our booths for storage.  If I am wrong please correct me.

  • Thanks Lori.  I got in off the waitlist just a couple weeks ago.

  • Hi Alison,

Last year I got onto show site at 4:00, offloaded on the curb and then parked. The setup is a tight back to back and depending on your space you might need shims as the block closest to the river is on a hill. There are plenty of surface pay parking lots around King St, get there early if you can and scope it out. As far as load out is concerened I found the easiest way is to breakdown, park on the closest side street and dolly out. Very affluent area, large crowds, I sold at all price points and it remains my best two day sales show. Unfortunately I'm waitlisted this year so I doubt I'll be seeing you there, have a great show.
