A quick introduction

Hello all! I've recently joined the site so I wanted to do a quick intro here. I'm thrilled to have found this resource because there is just SO MUCH information on here! My primary body of work is photography, mostly focused on abandoned places and things. I absolutely love exploring old buildings that are falling down and sharing their mystery and beauty.

In addition to the photography I also do bright mixed media pieces and found metal sculptures, though I've not had as much opportunity to include those mediums in shows.

I'm based out of Austin, TX and have been doing shows for about 1.5 years and I'm ready to Level Up and do more professional art fairs. I've definitely learned a lot over that time and changed my setup numerous times to make my life easier with both transport and setup/teardown time and now I get to do it again so that I can do the pro shows! My first order of business is to create my jury booth photo and then I can start the application process. Hooray! I'm really looking forward to doing this next step and I'm thankful everyone here is so willing to share information. I know it's going to make this transition a lot easier!

I've uploaded one of my favorite photos to this thread, and you can check out my work on my website http://www.deadlycreative.com and on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/deadlycreative

I'm reading through a whole lot of backlog posts, so please feel free to add any tips here that you have for a newbie :)

  • Hi April!

Absolutely lovely work! I can't decide if the I like the photos or sculptures better!

Congrats and good luck on taking the art fair plunge :) I'm still pretty much a noob myself, but this site has been immensely helpful! And it's not just the forums either, the blogs are also gold!

    • Thanks! I have a lot of fun with both of them :) I've not yet made it to the blogs but I'll definitely check them out!

  • Hi April,

Love your work and your hair!  We're so happy you're joining us, there are plenty of newbies here, including me, so welcome!  I'm sure you'll find great information and advice from some of the seasoned professionals and a virtual hug from your fellow artists just starting out.  I haven't taken the art fair plunge yet myself, so far only selling in galleries and gift shops.  I'm thinking of applying to some indoor craft markets this fall/winter season, but like you, I need to take some professional-looking photos first.  In any event, best of luck to you and keep us posted on your progress...

    • Thanks! :)
