Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

After last weekends mishap of leaving some important things in storage ( tent sides and display stands) I find myself curious as to what others have left at home. My second show a few years ago I left most of my earrings. What have you forgotten or misplaced that you need for your show?

We left the credit card machine at home charging on our first show of the year this year!!  LOL, we hadn't done a show for 3 months, we each thought the other one had packed it.  Thank goodness for a friend who had some extra "old fashioned" credit card forms, we made it through the day without one of us having to make a 2 hour round trip drive.

The change drawer.  Fortunately, we were within 20 miles of the house when we remembered.

Two tubs of framed prints one time, credit card machine another time. My brain at least once or twice. All the curtain hooks for hanging frames one time.
I tend to leave my brain at the show and then I have to wait for it to arrive back home about two days later.
ROFL ^^
One time I left the roof to my display home.  I had a friend box it up and send it to me.  Another time, on the way to Florida, I left half my pedestals.  I bought cheap 3 legged round tables and some material that I draped over them.  Ironically, it was my best Coconut Grove ever.
My first show of the year a couple of years back, my chair. It was a long weekend standing. I have a checklist posted inside the garage door that I check when loading, but still overlooked it.

well i have the top of the list items.  i did a one day show in carlsbad ca and i left one of my boxes filled with my merchandise at the show.   got a call the  next day saying that a policeman picked up the box and left it with his wife at a local bank.   Drove back down to Carlsbad a day later to get my merchandise and asked the wife what the husband did on his off hours.   I left a fishing boat with her and thanked her.  the drive was only two hours from where i lived.   never did that again in 20 years of being in this business.

Half my display equipment ... I made do with what I had.   And another time half my tablecloths .. not pretty, but once again I made do.  Occasionally I've forgotten something small eg. a hammer or screwdriver, and once, half my tools in my portable tool case for on the spot changes.  I almost lived to regret that last one but managed to get out of it by delivering the item to the customer the following day - a two hour round trip.

So glad to see I'm in good company although I really hope I don't forget something really big one day!!

Where to start. First, I frequently seem to forget my pliers, which I always like to have at a show in order to change out earrings findings, etc. I remember forgetting our Lightdome canopy top one time - left it in the garage. Fortunately, it wasn't a distance show and we were able to go back and get it. Another time, I left my laptop connect card in a hotel room in Avon, Colorado. We were about an hour away when I remembered. Again, salvageable. On a [somewhat] recent  road trip, I left my purse at a Perkins in Tulsa -- unfortunately, I didn't realize this until we were 4 hours away. They had found the purse and were holding it for me when I called. After proper identification procedures, they were super kind to mail it to me in Arizona via Priority Mail, at no charge.
One of the reasons I started this discussion was for my husband. He was quite angry at himself this time and was worried that he is loosing his mind. I just don't want him to loose his sense of humor. Or leave it behind.

Lordy... if he thinks a bunch of artists are going to have their poop in a group 100% of the time, he is CRAZY!  Someone, somewhere is forgetting something!  It's like death and taxes... and sometimes can be as costly!  Here's a friendly hug to your helper, then!  Wish I had a consistent one to forget things for me!  ;o)
