Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals
It is a big weekend in art fair land, I'd guess the busiest one all winter long. If you are in Florida you are probably packing your van now and getting a little anxious about the upcoming weekend.
Where will you be? The Big One, Coconut Grove? The nearby one, solid satellite at St. Stephen's Church grounds? A little north in Jupiter at Arti Gras? Uptown Art Expo at its new location in Altamonte Springs? Spending the weekend with Howard in Sarasota? Anywhere else?
Let us know where you'll be so we can find each other.... comment below....

Permalink Reply by Ruth Finkenbiner on February 16, 2012 at 10:00am We are on vacation!! Well, maybe not quite a vacation, since a family visit is not truly vacation, however we will be in OKC this weekend, can't wait to hear my grandkids yelling "Grandma, Grandma, Grandma" when we arrive on Saturday!

We'll be at BMAC in Philadelphia.

Permalink Reply by Munks on February 16, 2012 at 11:29am I shall be taking the weekend off from painting and tax stuff, but I will still do some more sketchwork for the robot series debuting March 3 at the Dundee Gallery in Omaha, NE.
I will also hopefully finish up on two book projects - one is a re-print of "Acerbic Diatribes" for Amazon's Kindle. A version for Nook will come out later in March and a new paperback of still more selected writings will come out on Amazon either late February or early March. Title is still being worked out to see if the lawyers will keep me protected.
I was going to go to Florida to take a short break and also finish up these tasks, but instead I will visit the casino in jaw-dropping French Lick, Indiana where I will nod my opium-infused head and soul to the work of "Groove Master DJ Rishi" in the main casino lounge (he features not only "oldies" but the latest hits as well). While this will be a great break from the doldrums of winter, I am disappointed to be unable to go to French Lick on the 25th to see the live band, Colonel Angus.
While I would prefer to drink Hemingway-style and enjoy sushi that was swimming 20 minutes before Nels and I would dig in at the Nippon in Jupiter - spending a Saturday night in the comforting arms of the French Lick Casino is not really that bad of a consolation.

Permalink Reply by Geoff Coe on February 16, 2012 at 3:07pm I'll be in Jupiter for ArtiGras, booth #433. First time ever at this show. Staying in Palm Beach Gardens at a Super 8, and lucky to get that. Popular weekend for everybody, not just artists!
I usually don't start shows till next month but I sponsored the local campdraft and they've asked me to go along with a small display for a few hours on Saturday afternoon. Initially I declined as past experience at events with horses haven't been successful, but the organiser assured me the ladies involved love jewellery and they'll be over 2000 participants, captive at the sporting grounds 5km out of town. There is only one other person selling items (shirts I believe) and with that many people stuck in the grounds, I'm willing to give it a try! Its only 20km away, a quick undercover setup and pulldown and no cost (apart from the sponsorship which I was doing anyway), so any sales will be good!

Permalink Reply by geri a. wegner on February 16, 2012 at 5:47pm I was at a sailing event last month with people from all over the US attending. There were several tables set up with things to buy (Florida type stuff, sailing stuff, clothes) and they were all doing killer business. You will probably be happily surprised at your sales.. Have fun!
Thanks Geri :) I don't really do horse things, but we'll see how I go!
If I EVER mention I'm considering a horse event in the future, please STOP ME!
I hardly saw a person walk by - there were heaps of people there, but if they weren't in the ring, they were sitting around their uber-luxurious campers that had absolutely everything that they didn't need to leave them!
Lesson learned, I hope!
