  • I just got the Intuit service and I like having it as a backup for my regular machine. I forgot my machine at the last show and was able to take credit cards, anyway :) The Intuit system also works on some Blackberries (which was why I didn't go with Square).
  • Hello, I am using an iPhone 3GS on AT&T... I have a subscription service with Intuit's "GoPayment" and using the Mophie "marketplace" reader (http://www.mophie.com/) that extends a bit of the bottom of the iPhone (looks more like a case than a reader). I have been very pleased with this service, the customization of "GoPayment" and it's not tied to just a WiFi connection. GoPayment has an offer for a free reader that worked off the "headset" jack on the iPhone... I preferred the Mophie reader. And it can connect to a bluetooth printer as well.

The "swipe" rate is 1.75%, while keying-in credit card info is almost 1% higher...

    • thanks Kevin. I spoke to my current cc processor and my store and forward machine was able to be upgraded, so I can put the decision off for a bit
  • If you have an Iphone or a Droid, you may want to look into the Square at squareup.com.  We used ours for the first time last weekend.  Worked flawlessly.  No signup or monthly fees, and a 2.75% swiped rate.

    • I had heard that square had a cap on amounts you can use, that after $1000 a week, they hold funds for 90 days, is that still true?

      • There is an initial cap of $1000 per week, which can be raised after a time...all of the information is on their website...squareup.com.  We have never done more than a few hundred in charges alone in a weekend.  The way we figure, if charges start to get higher, we'll ask for a limit increases after we've established a good track record.  The hold is for 30 days.   It's always best to check out the source, in this case squareup.com for valid information. :))
