Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals
Heading to Pigeon Key? Looks like there may be bad weather and the organizers are scrambling to take it indoors. Indoors? in Florida? How bad can the forecast be? Anyway it is good to see them doing everything they can to salvage the event for everyone.

Wow, that pretty unprecedented. The weather didn't look that bad ...could be a flooding problem?
Permalink Reply by Lois Songer on February 9, 2012 at 9:06pm Curious......the forecast here says scattered thunderstorms with 40% chance of rain on Sat. and few thunderstorms possible on Sunday. The forecast for our show was much worse than that and we never saw so much as a drop of rain! I never even worry about rain here unless it is like 70% or over. We are a really small target in the forecast area! I wish them luck....... If it is nice, who wants to go indoors?
Even stranger is that today's Key West newspaper had a press release about the entertainment and talked about it being in the park. That is the first PR I had seen about the show at all!
Not sure I'll make the drive ...... to go to the airport!! Hope others don't feel the same way!
Their web site now says that the show has been moved to the airport.
Permalink Reply by Joan Tweedell on February 18, 2012 at 7:46pm Yes, they moved it to the airport where artists had the choice of setting up in a double row in the driveway in front of the terminal building,or indoors in the dingy concourse and seating areas, I chose the latter and was given a long narrow space in an out-of-the-way seating area that was well lit but had little traffic. The weather turned out to be very windy but no rain. Signage about the change in venue was minimal, there was nothing at the airport to indicate that the show was there. Traffic was poor, sales were worse, the show was smaller than ever before (0nly 60 booths, 20 of them jewelers) and I didn't make expenses. Few people I spoke to did. Too bad, it was a nice show but this year gave it a big blow.
Permalink Reply by Staci McLauchlan on February 19, 2012 at 12:27pm It turns out the weather was pretty much a non-event. I was doing the Local's Art Show (affectionately known as Pigeon Poop) in Marathon the same weekend. It was very windy Friday night (after setup) and Saturday morning. It's always windy in the Keys so you have to be prepared for that. Otherwise, there was very little rain.
Pigeon Poop is always a great show and if you can't get into Pigeon Key, give it a try. Great crowds, nice artists, and free admission to the public (unlike the $7 they want at Pigeon Key.) Lots of people go to both shows. Last year the comments were that Pigeon Key had too much jewelry. This year several visitors to my booth said that Pigeon Key was a little disappointing and they would stick to the Locals show in the future
Permalink Reply by C Z Williams on March 1, 2012 at 10:44pm They put it at the airport because high winds were predicted. It turned out very well. They did a good job in a short time and worked very hard to make sure the show went well. Although there were not many artists and not huge crowds I thought it went fairly well for the short notice change and the weather predictions. Other artists I spoke with and myself were happy with sales, making expenses plus extra.
