Just came back from this show. What a mess. This show misrepresented itself on Zapplication .  There was just enough info to let you believe this was a high quality show with 100,000 people attending. They never mention this show had changed the location , name , and date of two shows and came up with this show or that it was a new show with old managment New date New location and New name and no history.
I feel like i was manipulated into this show with false information that is posted on Zapp. I could go into details But what's the point i would advise everyone to stay away from CITY ARTS FESTIVAL DALLAS.
I have done over 200 Juried shows and this may have been the worst.
How do we make Zapp Investigate what a show says about itself on Zapp ???

  • I don't get it. Why do artists think ZAPP has a responsibility to check what details a show lists. Does Sunshine Artist make shows that list take lie detector tests? ZAPP is an application system, period. It's clients are the shows that pay them to list. It's up to artists to investigate what a show is about before they spend their money on the application fee, booth fee, transportation and inventory.

I'm not defending ZAPP or Sunshine Artist or even this web site that shows pay (in reciprocal advertising) to be listed. Artists need to take a more responsible approach to how they spend their money and stop shotgun style applying to shows.

I have no trouble with your post except the last line putting the blame where it doesn't belong. If you really think ZAPP did something wrong, post it to the ZAPP user forum for them to see.

There was a recent thread about hawkers at art shows and I wrote about something similar in my monthly newsletter when another show had sponsors every ten booths throughout the show. That's something artists need to know before applying, but a show isn't going to state that they have a sponsor booth every hundred feet. But now artists know about it and they can make better application choices next year. If you want to help other artists, write exactly what's wrong with the show and go into detail so other artists can be helped.
