The spring Birmingham MI Fine arts festival is now on the last weekend of May.

Anyone have an opinion on the date change? It is back at Shain Park. I did it last in 2010, when it was on Old Woodward. Didn’t do very well (I think it was cold?). I was wait listed last year, and did not get called. If memory serves, the weather was rainy then.  I am on the fence about applying. I used to do really well there, but that was at least 4 to 5 years ago. Maybe weather might be better, a little later, but that is also a holiday weekend.

The fall Birmingham show is now in August. I have never done that one. Anyone do that recently? Thanks!

  • Well, let me see…..Go to a giant garden swap in Chicago on Friday and plant what I get all weekend? (which is what I’ve done the last 3 years.)  I’ve never done a show on Memorial Day weekend; though I have applied to one for years (Lafayette IN)...not that there are that many.

    • I love the giant garden swap -- might be worth a drive for me... Gardening? the other place to get great plants if you come to Birmingham is at the Cranbrook Gardens - they have loads of native plants. I buy some every May when I'm in the Detroit area.

  • No opinion on either of these shows, Linnea. But you are right, I am pretty surprised to see Art Birmingham at the end of May!  It had always been mid-May but I know that at least two out of the last three shows have had terrible rainy weather. This is quite a move for them. I'm hoping it is good. The good thing about it is this is a weekend when there are hardly any shows - which means also that it gives artists another weekend to make some money (?) ... I'm thinking that the holiday won't make a difference for attendance, and shouldn't hurt.

The fall show is not in August. It is at its usual time, later in September.
