What are the best things about art fairs

Every one another adventure.Obviously, this is only one element of the real world of photography. It demands both creativity as well as marketing and sales expertise. More than a roving gallery, the social aspects something I never planned on.

Best show ever and why

Main St. Ft. Worth 08. Why? Sales were a knock out, our first exposure to the big time show.

Worst show ever and why

The Breckenridge shows (Mark Belling) as well as Boulder's 29th St. show last year (Howard Allen). Both well organized, the Breck crowd wasn't interested in what we do (more landscape and wildlife folks) while the 29th st was a first time "mall show".

Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.

Hmm. Hasn't happened other than because of weather. This another thing to worry about I guess.

  • Many thanks, Mark, for the excellent link to this site at the yahoo group! I really appreciate it.

Wish you had checked in here before you left CO for KY :(
  • Congratulations, Mark. The members of Art Fair Insiders have chosen you as a Featured Artist. You are particularly noted for your forthright sharing that has stimulated good discussion. Best wishes.
  • I will be attending the Jackson show in AUgust and will let you know how things go. I just got back form the Big West Arts Festival in Sheridan WY. I have participated in the show for the past 3 years. Great show, well run and a good group of artists (no photography), wonderful music, a beautiful setting but everyones sales were down.
  • You probably didn't know, but my husband was a photographer, and we traveled and did shows with his b & w handcolored photos for almost 30 years - so I do know a little about the medium, probably more than any other one for that matter.
  • Wow! Really nice photography, Mark!!

No Red Rocks, or as Larry told me "slot canyons." I expect you should jury well into shows - and then you meet the people - the fun part of the business!
