First show ever
Mine was the NYRF but my husbands (whose business this is) was Huntington, Long Island.
What are the best things about art fairs
They are opportunities for people to make a living at what the love and do best.
Best show ever and why
That's hard. We love our two home shows of NYRF and PARF but financially and ego-boosting wise both the last 10 years at Norman Medieval Festival and our guest spot in 2012 at TRF were amazing both financially and in feedback.
Worst show ever and why
Again, hard to say and I hate saying it because the same show can be great one year and awful the next. We did a street fair that is held twice a year 4 miles from our home a few times. The first time was Columbus Day weekend and we did amazingly well for a 3 day show with a half tank of gas for the entire weekend and a little elbow grease. So we decided to do the Spring and then the Fall again the following year. We did terribly in the Spring. The Fall show was ruined for the usual vendors who set up in front of the local restaurant because the owner refused to allow anyone to set tents up there or on the lawn next to the restaurant even though just about all of the vendors ate lunch and dinner there each day during previous shows, thus packing a restaurant that had seen dwindling crowds in recent years. The road was completely closed so it would not have taken a parking spot away from the restaurant and visibility was no issue since it is a small town and that was the ONLY restaurant in town. As you know, once you get established in a spot it can ruin the show for you if you move to a different spot. It is worth noting the restaurant who's owner was being so difficult went out of business after 41 years shortly after this incident. I may be wrong but it feels like a case of shooting themselves in the foot. As localsl, after witnessing the behavior that day, we never ate at the restaurant again.
