First show ever
A home show my wife and I hosted. 5 shows later I was the Lakefront Festival of the Arts (2014)and have been juried out of the first 3 shows I applied to this year. Go figure...
What are the best things about art fairs
I have the opportunity to explain, face to face, the complexity of the images which include some of my vintage typewriters and the multiple layers which combine my own shots with orphaned vintage photos and the storyline behind the included quote and the connection to the entire composition.
Best show ever and why
Lakefront Festival of the Arts - no questions. I sold extremely well (57 pieces, most well below $100.00) but I was kept busy for sure. I felt like I had been dropped into the middle of genius and couldn't figure out how I got there, this being my 6th show. One of those sales went to the grand daughter of Increase A. Lapham who was crucial to the development of the typewriter; and she couldn't say enough about my work. Would that be carried direct to the jury; maybe next year.
Worst show ever and why
I think it would have to be Mt. Mary last year. The committee has kept the maximum price at $100 while adding maybe 15 extra artists and allowed multiple artists to share a booth and a half. Even more deadly the committee doubled the admission charge for the buyers who proceeded to stay away in droves. Blatant greed is one of the fastest ways to kill a great show and it was fully in effect last year.
Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.
My wife, Laura Meddaugh has been doing art fairs for the past 34 years; first in watercolors and now in acrylics. I may be a "newbie" on the circuit but I have her storehouse of knowledge and selling your work to the public.
What is one fun fact about yourself?
I have virtually no art or computer schooling. I was banned from art starting in 7th grade and I have no formal creditable training in photography or computer science at the collegiate level. Instead what started as a challenge in a high school staff meeting came back to haunt me; I wound up teaching Photoshop and Computer Animation for the next 25 years.

Great story, thanks for sharing. I have to say that making a super ball out of rubber cement was a pretty creative thing to do, though, and perhaps the unofficial start of your artistic path...
In any event, we're delighted to have you joining us here...enjoy the ride!
Hi Paul,
Welcome and thanks for all the great information...I'm curious as to why a 7th grader would be "banned" from art but maybe that was the start of your can do philosophy. In any event, congratulations for persevering and best of luck with your future endeavors.
