First show ever
A little fairground show in Manhattan, KS.
What are the best things about art fairs
Income generated from making things at home sold outdoors in good weather and in the companionship of like minded intelligent artists.
Best show ever and why
This is hard and I don't think I can nail this down to just one. The shows with the highest income are great but not necessarily the "best" shows. I would have to say I enjoy most smaller shows I've participated in for many years, where sales are solid and consistent despite the weather and I have both family and good friends. Like the College Hill Art Fair in Cedar Falls, IA.
Worst show ever and why
Probably the Gilroy Garlic Festival many years ago. We travelled from Kansas to combine a visit with family in Santa Cruz. There was a stabbing incident in an artist booth which was the top story in San Francisco, San Jose and Santa Cruz the first evening. We were sandwiched between a booth with wind socks and another selling birdhouses. Our glass garlic vases were so cool, but we just barely covered expenses.
Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.
I've known about this site for a long time. My husband Cecil McKenzie receives the emails. I think Steve Nowatzki may have brought it to my attention first.
What is one fun fact about yourself?
My daughter gave me an ice cube tray for Christmas that makes giant ice cubes. I'm sold, they are best for any drink I don't want watered down.
