What are the best things about art fairs

The supportive community of artisans!

Best show ever and why

One of a Kind: they have done a remarkable job of bringing in customers who truly love unique handmade creations.

Worst show ever and why

I was at a "handmade" artisan show once and across the aisle from me was: * Toronto Star Newspaper subscriptions * bathtub re-fitter * chiropractor giving free 5 minute adjustments. In other words, when they couldn't get enough artisans, they accepted ANYONE just to sell off the remaining booths. I was furious!

Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.

Another Artisan from Canada who said you are an excellent resource for artisans.

What is one fun fact about yourself?

Unfortunately I start to snort when I'm laughing particularly hard. Some people think it's endearing!

  • OMG, those helmet covers are amazing!

  • I'd love more info about Canadian shows, Karyn, and could use your help. I have a page for Canada on ArtFairCalendar.com, this link, and could use a critique and other info. When you have some time will you please look at it?

  • Well, good luck...you'll have to let us know how it goes and whether or not they give you a hard time at the border.  I haven't gotten my feet wet yet, still testing the waters.  I'm trying to decide if I want to do shows or just sell in gift shops and galleries.  I'm in the process of working with a coach/artist rep who I hope will steer me in the right direction.  I've heard the O.O.A.K. show is pretty amazing, hope you do well.

  • Hi Karyn,

Well, I live in the Detroit area which is only about 4 hours away for you and there's a big, wonderful craft show every year at the Masonic Temple in downtown that you should consider.  It's called Detroit Urban Craft Fair and although I didn't exhibit last year, I did go and it was fabulous and wall to wall shoppers.  Check out their website and let me know if you decide to do it.  I think you'd do well there.

  • Hi Karyn,

Adorable!  I'll have to get one for my two-year old grandson when he starts riding a bicycle and wearing a helmet...so cute.  Thanks for joining us here and continued success.
