What are the best things about art fairs

Travelling! Possibility of coming home with a pocketful of money :), meeting other amazing artists, the atmosphere of creativity and energy. Possibly doing some awesome trades :).

Best show ever and why

A local show for a private school about an hour away. 2 hour show, didn't want to do it but was talked into it by the super nice director :). It only lasted 2 hours but I made $750. Not a huge amount of money for a 3 day festival but awesome for a little 2 hour show.

Worst show ever and why

I've only done local markets for the past 2 years (1-2 1/2 hours away) but I generally make between $400 - $600 a weekend doing them. My worst show was actually my first "big" driving 6 hours to get to show. I made less than $500, had a 3 night hotel bill for 2 people, gas, food, etc. I do believe I actually lost money. It was the Bluffton Art and Seafood Festival which would be possibly great if you're a local but possibly disastrous if you have a lot of expenses. Beautiful setting and wonderful organizers though. I enjoyed it except for the lack of sales.

  • Hi Jennifer,

I read your response about doing art fairs closer to home and saw that you are concentrating on corporate art.  I have been told over and over that my work should be in a corporate setting.  My question is how do you go about getting into the corporate settings?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jackie
