What are the best things about art fairs

Making money, expanding client base

Best show ever and why

Steamboat Springs. CO, mid 1990's: sold custom saddle and wrote order for another. Abotut $10K at today's prices.

Worst show ever and why

La Cantera, San Antonio, TX, 2011: profitable but poorly promoted and few if any buyers. A couple high end sales saved the day.

  • Hey Richard, I just read your comment from Connie's page. What an animal you are busting up that ponderosa and doing it at 78, your an inspiration. I used to heat with firewood back in the midwest when I could get my hands on lots of hardwoods. I loved it and almost regretted burning some of the qualities of wood I had, maybe subconsciously that's what has driven me into wood sculpting.
Anyhow, just wanted to say Hi, have a great year.

  • Hi Richard,

I just read a post you had about shoplifting at art fair; specifically your experience at a show in Manitou Springs Colorado. I’m thinking of applying to and looking for reviews of the Commonwheel Artists Art Festival to apply to. And I can’t find any reviews about that show from any artists. Was this the show you had theft at? Have you done it recently and what are your thoughts? Or nay be you have heard about it from others?

I would like to apply to the Affordable Arts festival in Littleton Colorado the weekend before this Labor Day weekend show; hoping to get in to both to be worth the drive and expenses all the way from Livingston Montana.
  • Richard, You mentioned you did the Jackson Hole show in '15 and '16 and I can not fine your review on Art Fair Insiders. I am at least two days driving time and then have the show expenses so I am trying to get any comments about what the return was at the show. Any comments? My work runs $300 - $3K www.fineleatherartwork.com and is western oriented. I'd appreciate any comments you ahve on the show itself. Thanks, Jay
