The Great Fair in Fountain Hills, AZ

Posted on March 5, 2017 at 6:52pm 4 Comments

What a joke,  I think they should name the show something else, not the Great Fair  I did this show in the early 90's and then it was a Great Fair.  The work was real good and no buy/sell.  I knew artists that did wonderful sculptural pieces, paintings, and fine jewelry work, but where have they gone. The artists I knew 20 years ago are no longer doing this show.  And this show has evolved into mostly buy/sell.  It is a shame.   And then the landscape is changing do to progress.   Used to…

Square chip reader and working with parkinson's

Posted on November 26, 2016 at 10:53am 16 Comments

I have a motor tremor in my hands and find it hard to insert the chip card into the reader.  i was thinking of inserting the card into the reader and then inserting it into my ipad  is this feasible.  and then i was thinking of getting the 49.00 reader  since there is a slot for the whole card and that might solve my problem of inserting the card  does anyone have the 49 reader and how do they like it

Prescott fine art and wine show

Wrote a review of show and thought it was fair under the circumstances. I have never seen so many dogs at a show in the 25 + years of doing shows and I think from observation made this weekend dog walkers don't buy. Not one dog walker came in my booth. I like dogs but the stones around the square are rough. I saw maybe 10 people on the grass. Rained at setup, sat was cold, Sunday was sunny but not real warm. I told myself would not go back when barely made booth fee in 2012 but thought maybe it… Continue

Boulder City Art in the Park

Posted on October 15, 2012 at 11:55pm 4 Comments

First of all the weather was perfect for this show after so many years of wind, and rain.  The crowds were huge, and they seem to be buying.  This year they had a lot of portopotties which was good.   Three of the parks were filled with artists.  Wilbur park where the fine arts was,  was about 1/2 full, from other years,   The biggest problem with this show is all the buy/sell.   Someone a year ago who reviewed this show said it was walmartized, and were they ever right.  There was a LOT of…

Thanks Steve, I was wondering about San Diego. I think I'm going to limit my participation to shows within daily driving distance. I haven't heard any success stories for any of the art fairs this year. Seems to me that the consensus is that qualified buyers just aren't buying. People with spare cash are just shoving it in the mattress I guess.

Hi Steve, Was hoping maybe you could share some experience regarding shows on the West Coast, you seem to be one of the few really active artists in this region, especially California where we are considering a few shows for 2012 (our first shows outside of the Pacific NW).

Hi Steve,

Shows we are considering for May / June 2012 in Northern CA:

El Dorado Art & Wine Affair
Berryessa Art & Wine Festival
Los Altos Art Festival
Art on the Main
Mountain A La Carte & Art

Affaire in the Gardens

Patterson Apricot Fiesta
Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival
Novto Festival of Art, Wine and Music
Hermosa Beach Art Walk
Live Oak Park Fair
Danville Fine Arts Fair
Marin Arts Festival

Any you think we should avoid at all costs or any you recommend?

BTW, we don't do Bumbershoot and we live here, in fact I don't know any artists who do that show. Folklife (Memorial Day) is much better, Bumbershoot is way too much buy/sell.  Be glad to share any info on other shows in this region that you are interested in.

Thanks Steve,  BTW, if you are interested in FolkLife, let me know.  I have the website and the promoter's email.  FolkLife was way off this year for most of us ( think I posted a blog on it), but usually is a good show for us, much better than Bumbershoot could ever be based on what I've heard about Bumbershoot.  Let me know if there are any other shows up here you are considering, if I haven't done them, I bet I know artists who have.
