Has anyone ever participated or heard any feedback on this show?  In all the searching I've done for shows in AZ, this one never came up before, a non-artist friend who lives in Cottonwood suggested we think about this for next year.https://sedonavistavillage.com/oak-creek-arts-crafts-show-nov-24-26-perfect-season/See More

Cancelling a long running art show, due to lack of organizational skills!

Posted on July 15, 2016 at 12:25pm 4 Comments

So, I’m sure that’s not what the Choochokam Arts Foundation told the artists, they had varied explanations but it just comes down to the fact that this organization that has long lacked for planning skills, failed once again and this time the failure was big enough to cause a cancellation of an event that’s been running for 39 years, cancelling it when it was too late for artists to apply and make other plans for…

Tempe Fall Festival of the Arts - 2014

Here you go Connie, a short blog on Tempe Fall Festival of the Arts.

This was our second year participating and it truly felt like an entirely different show, different crowd, etc.  Last year we had a booth location that was close to the end of the show on a side street, plus we had to deal with the Pac 12 Championship Game on Saturday of the show and it seemed most of the attendees were not there for the art show, they were there for the game and didn’t want to buy anything…

Demise of a favorite show

Or maybe the title of this post should have been “Is this any way to treat your artists?”

It’s kind of sad, a wonderful little community show, in an absolutely perfect location on Whidbey Island, one of the most artistic communities in the Pacific Northwest.  The locals support this festival and they have great volunteer support.  Whidbey Island is very supportive of the arts, Langley is listed in John Villani’s “The 100 best Art Towns in America”.

2014 has been off to a much different start than we ever expected.  After getting waitlisted for 2 January shows, rejected / waitlisted for our Feb shows it looked like our first show of the year was going to be in March in Albuquerque before we continued on to Texas.  Well, that all changed as we left Tucson AZ for Dallas TX in a hurry due to an impending death in our immediate family.  We ended up cancelling a few shows and rearranging our travel schedule.  So after a much longer break…

If i can  help i will,  I used to do calif shows about 15 years ago.   just got back into calif.   La Jalla was a decent show but if i lived where you did i would not drive to it.   It was one of the cleanest shows i have been to in awhile.   I would like to do it next year but depends if i get into Utah Arts Festival.  Have you considered Boise ID,  or Salem, The one good show in AZ i think is Tempe in dec.   I only  live 100 away but i used to do when i lived in S. Calif and it was a great show.   I do know a photographer who drives down from WA and he does real well.  What shows are you consider doing in Calif.   I heard bumbershoot is a decent show up where you are.

Danville Fine Arts Fair could be real hot  who is running it

Marin Arts Festival--  don't know    i think you have to be a resident of calif.

Hi Ruth,

I just found a question that you asked me back in May.  Not sure how I missed it but here is the answer to this:

Hi Joe - was just searching for various shows and came across this thread. We live in the Seattle area and are considering longer road trips for 2012 in the spring and fall, tired of doing shows in rain.

Any input on shows in October including: Monrovia Celebrate the Arts, Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival or Campbell Oktoberfest?

Pacific Fine Arts is not accepting any new jewelry artstis so that eliminates several potential shows for us.

BTW, I saw your comment that your summer home is in Vancouver WA, any good shows in that city?  I've never been able to find anything that looked promising.

There are three general shows that I can think of the Portland/Vancouver area:

Salem, Art in the Pearl, and Sandy Mountain Days.   Art in the Pearl is the toughest to get into with Salem being second.  Sandy is the easiest to get into and I did it for three years.  Set up and tear down can be a real bear.  It's in a mountain park in Sandy, Oregon, and booths are scattered along the one way road, and at various locations in the trees.  It's been about five years since I've done it and after I had to cart about a half mile to my rig I said no more.  Sales were ok but nothing great.  I spend early July in California and then Bellevue at Month's end.

Half Moon Bay is a good show but best to try and connect it with one of the other shows in that area.  Danville is a nice choice the weekend after but sales normally would be about Half Moon Bay, but I'm already there and spend great times with long-time artist friends.

Not sure anything about Monrovia or Campbell.

This fall we'll be back in California.

Joe
