Reid Watts replied to Tony DeCoste's discussion What makes up the perfect show? From the artists perspective...
"A perfect show would: Allow me to set up any time during a two day period before the show, and break down either the evening of the last day of the show, or the next day. That way I can work around inclement weather during setup and break…"

Airbnb

This is an answer to Connie’s question “Just wondering if any of you are having any luck trying Air BnB?”  I decided to start a new thread on this, since I think it is a substantive issue.

I have used Airbnb a few times, with positive experiences up until last month, when a host canceled my reservation.  The host, who is listed as a Superhost with all good reviews, canceled my fully-paid-for reservation “because a family member needs to use it”.  I was refunded my payment by Airbnb,…

Adding brakes to your utility trailer is easy and inexpensive

Posted on December 8, 2017 at 2:32pm 1 Comment

I just finished adding brakes to my 5x8 utility trailer, which turned out to be surprisingly easy to do. So I thought I would post a report:

I have been thinking for years that having brakes on my trailer might be a prudent investment, even though they are not required in the states that I use the trailer in. My trailer is a 5x8 utility trailer that weighs fully loaded 2200 lbs. I recently purchased a new tow vehicle that has an integral trailer brake controller with an anti-sway…

Is your pricing keepin up with inflation?

Posted on November 19, 2017 at 7:11pm 11 Comments

In the midst of all of these “for sale” blog postings, I thought I should get a discussion going on a topic of interest to us all.  So here goes:

Despite historically low inflation, the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) has increased by 18% in the last ten years (from 207.3 to 244.3).  Have you increased your prices by 18% as well?  If not, why not?

Your rig may be overloaded

Posted on October 12, 2017 at 2:09pm 12 Comments

I recently did a deep dive into vehicle loading, and discovered that it is much easier to overload a vehicle than one would think.  It seems like a simple calculation: get a vehicle and/or trailer large enough to accommodate everything you need for a show, then make sure that the tow vehicle and hitch are rated to tow the weight of your trailer plus a guestimate of the weight of your gear, and you’re done.  My tow vehicle is rated…
