I just got my info packet for the Estes Park art festival I'll be in this September, and it mentions they do not have overnight security. What do most people do at fairs like this? Pack up all the…Continue

What are the best things about art fairs
Meeting people who truly appreciate my art and hearing what it is they like about it. Meeting other like minded artists.
Best show ever and why
Lakefront Festival of Art 2013 - Milwaukee: great management, great crowd, decent sales, and under one big tent so the rain didn't slow things down much.
Worst show ever and why
Art in the Park, Steamboat Springs 2013: terrible sales, was stuck in a seemingly low traffic area (several told me my booth was kind of hidden.)

Moving on to color

Posted on June 4, 2017 at 9:21pm 10 Comments

My landscape photography has primarily been shot on 4x5 B&W film for decades, with a bit of color transparency work in the distant past. When I started doing fairs in 2012 I was showing only black & white work which I had shot on large…

Truck campers for doing fairs?

Posted on August 9, 2014 at 8:30pm 7 Comments

Curious if anyone has a pop-up truck camper that they use to do art fairs, for both sleeping in and hauling their gear?

While a Sprinter seems to make the most sense for fairs, I'm trying to see if I can get something that works for doing fairs as well as my off road camping & photo trips.

I'm pondering getting the Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 V6 Eco-Diesel and a pop-up camper top. It seems like I could fit my art, booth, and 6' Propanels, but I'm wondering if anyone else has…

Midsummer Festival of the Arts at the Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin

Posted on July 21, 2014 at 9:00pm 14 Comments

Even though last years sales at Kohler's Midsummer Festival of the Art didn't really warrant a return, I decided to apply again since I had moved back to Wisconsin and it would be an ok filler if I needed it. As it turns out I got in Kohler again, which is good since Kohler and the Uptown Art Fairs in MN are the only shows I was accepted into this year. Tough year compared to my previous couple years where I had a much higher acceptance rate!

It was a beautiful weekend with…

Interesting start to 2014

Posted on April 14, 2014 at 6:58pm 7 Comments

Perhaps it was beginners luck that I got in about 80% of the shows I applied for my first two years of trying art fairs. Even won a Best in Photography last year, and was accepted into a bigger art fest on the first try. This year has been oddly different. So far I've yet to be accepted into a single fair, although I am on a few wait lists.

Then amidst the rejection on the art fair jurors, I was awarded a fellowship from the Racine Art Museum and will be working towards a new body of…
