What are the best things about art fairs: I appreciate connecting with the people and working outdoors. I love it!

Best show ever and why: As an artist working art festivals and fairs, I'm too new to the business to have a best. This year, I'm participating in 14 art festivals around the country and am excited.

Worst show ever and why: Well, now I have something to say. The worst show to date was the Fountain Square Art Festival in Evanston, IL. What a terrible experience! Booths crammed so tight we couldn't move, nor could the crowds. In two days, not one person came around to relieve us for bathroom or food breaks. They gave away free water and soda, etc. However, you had to walk blocks away to get it from their office. And, without a booth sitter, you couldn't leave. Load in and load out were unbelievable. I felt like I was cattle in the way they crammed our cars into tiny spaces for unloading, etc. I could go on and on about how awful this show was -- sales didn't even pay for the booth. All in all, it felt like the interest was more in booth sales than in a lovely buying experience for visitors and artists.
